bio
sara hanaoka
I am a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Asbury Park, NJ and Brooklyn, NY. Born to Japanese and Cambodian parents, much of my work is inspired by relationship to my own identity and experiences living in the US, Tokyo, and Paris. My films expand from narrative fiction to documentary such as Kill Your Surveyor (2022) and Adore Her (2021).
I have over 7 years of on-set and educational experience in film and video production. I specialize in directing, cinematography, gaffing, editing, and coloring. As of 2023, I am a member of the second graduating class of Emerson College and Paris College of Art's Global B.F.A Program.
